the way of the festival

Please read this entire page before filling out the submission form + uploading your artwork below.

This is a monthly cinema + arts festival centered on exploring ecology through creativity and expression.

This is a donation based, pay-what-you-can event. Suggested donation for submissions is $6 per entry (includes 1 festival entry). Suggested donations for festival goers is $8 - $10 per person. Suggested donations for dinner is $18 - $28.

This festival runs on reciprocity. All donations will help support an expanding festival of truly independent artists and creativity in a welcoming, cozy,  supportive environment. Cash and trade-based donations are welcome.

All ages are welcome to attend and submit art. Artists under 14 years old should submit with a person 18 or older. No entry donation necessary for children 10 years old and under. Children (10 and under) dinner suggested donation is $10 per meal.

Each month, about one week prior to the festival, we will post guidelines for that month's cinema and art submissions. Each submission shall incorporate all of the posted guidelines. Usually a specific theme, prop, character, and quote.

Group or individual art projects are encouraged.

Artists may submit any art-form that tells a story presentable in five minutes or less. Examples include, but are not limited to: short documentary films, short experimental films, music videos, live song performances, live poetry reading, dance/choreography, live theater, photography series, painting or drawing, basket weaving, or any other creative project inspired by the guidelines.

Attending artists will be able to present their projects live in Kailua at our cozy, backyard movie theater.

Remote submissions will be considered for presentation (time permitting).

Please no brand new purchased props other than fresh food. Please use preowned/repurposed/thrifted props and set dressing.

You must submit evidence of completion by the submission due time with a photograph (ex. sculpture or painting), audio recording (ex. song or speech), written document (ex. poem or story), video (ex. dance or movie).

Please submit the following materials with your film or art: a logline, a synopsis, a still image or poster, and a cast/crew list with credits (entry form on submissions page).

All submissions should be uploaded via the Dropbox link in the submission form on the submissions page. Please name your project upload like this: "titleofproject_artistfullname" (ex. wonderlandfestival_danestory.mp4). Make sure you see a "Finished uploading" notification before clicking the "submit" button.
