an open letter to detroiters.
We'd like to ask for you help! Below is a letter detailing a little about the project we're about to embark on and how you can help raise awareness and be a part of our team as we try to get to know the city of Detroit and it's people a little more intimately.
Dear Detroiters,
We are in pre-production on an television pilot, set in Detroit. Titled "Detroit Lost", the show will follow an eclectic cast of characters, centered a native Detroiter who becomes entrapped by the Detroit Italian Mafia. And that's just the beginning! The shows scope will illuminate all the facets of the Detroit criminal underworld and all of the citizens fighting to keep their city safe and moving forward. The show will be about the hardships put upon the city by the powers that be; focusing a good deal on the positive community organizing by Detroit citizens.
As we're launching our Kickstarter campaign, we hope to add a 3-5 minute video illuminating the positive/community oriented happenings in the city. From the urban farming, to the citizen run crime investigative group the Detroit 300, showcasing the Heidelberg Project in a more specific/human way than most news outlets cover it.
We'd LOVE to ask for your help during our Kickstarter campaign and as we go forward in developing our pilot. We've devoured some books (Charlie LeDuff's "Detroit: An American Autopsy and "Detroit City is the Place to Be" by Mark Binelli) and documentaries and have been talking to friends from the area already for insight but we'd really like to dig deeper and meet people from Detroit. Specifically, if you or anyone you know in/from Detroit that would be willing to share a personal Detroit story (preferably as a video diary, though in writing or via phone works too) - either detailing an event or project they are a part of or have witnessed first hand. Whether demonstrating hope or tragedy or a blend of the two, the more personal and Detroit specific the better.
Thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Dane Story
